National Resources

La Leche League International

Provides free breastfeeding and chestfeeding education, peer support groups, local leaders, and evidence-based resources for nursing families.

Fed Is Best Foundation

Provides evidence-based education on infant feeding, combination feeding, safe formula supplementation, and preventing feeding-related complications.

Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (ABM)

Develops evidence-based clinical protocols and educational resources on breastfeeding and lactation for healthcare professionals and families.

KellyMom

Provides evidence-based articles on breastfeeding, chestfeeding, pumping, milk supply, introducing solids, infant sleep, and medications during lactation. Content is written and reviewed by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

MotherToBaby

Provides free expert guidance about medications, vaccines, supplements, and environmental exposures during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

InfantRisk Center

Provides evidence-based information about medication safety during pregnancy and lactation through a free hotline.

Pennsylvania Resources

Pennsylvania WIC

Provides nutrition education, breastfeeding support, breast pump assistance, and formula benefits for eligible pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding families.

Mid-Atlantic Mothers’ Milk Bank

Provides screened donor human milk for medically fragile infants and supports milk donation throughout Pennsylvania.

Human Milk 4 Human Babies – Pennsylvania

Provides a peer-to-peer milk sharing community where families can connect directly to donate or receive human milk free of charge. Unlike nonprofit milk banks, milk shared through this group is not screened, pasteurized, or regulated. Families are encouraged to make informed decisions and discuss informal milk sharing with their healthcare provider.

Pittsburgh Resources

Hello Baby Allegheny

Connects families with local breastfeeding support, formula assistance, WIC, donor milk resources, lactation consultants, and feeding programs.

Black Breastfeeding Circle of Pittsburgh

Provides culturally responsive breastfeeding and chestfeeding education, peer support, lactation counseling, community meetups, and referrals for Black families throughout the Pittsburgh area. Their mission is to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding as the cultural norm for families of African descent.

Breastfeeding Center of Pittsburgh

Provides lactation consultations, feeding assessments, pumping support, prenatal breastfeeding education, and infant feeding guidance from IBCLCs.

The Midwife Center

Offers prenatal breastfeeding classes, lactation support, infant feeding education, and postpartum follow-up.

The MAYA Organization

Provides breastfeeding education, lactation support, postpartum care, infant feeding education, and access to diapers and baby supplies for BIPOC and marginalized families.

Greater Pittsburgh Infant Formula Bank

Provides free emergency infant formula, lactation support, infant feeding education, and referrals for families throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania. Families can visit any public formula bank location or the mobile unit regardless of where they live. The program supports breastfeeding, combination feeding, and formula feeding.

UPMC Magee Lactation Center

Offers prenatal breastfeeding classes, outpatient lactation consultations, telehealth visits, phone support, and breastfeeding education. Services are available to all families, even if they did not deliver at UPMC Magee.

AHN Breastfeeding Support

Provides one-on-one consultations with IBCLCs, prenatal breastfeeding education, outpatient lactation support, breast pump assistance, and Nursing Café support groups at multiple AHN hospitals.
