Frequently Asked Questions

Before You Book

I offer support throughout every stage of the reproductive journey, including pregnancy, labor and birth, postpartum, pregnancy loss, and Nourishment Visits. Whether you’re preparing for birth, adjusting to life with a new baby, navigating pregnancy loss, or simply looking for practical support, I’m here to meet you where you are.

That depends on where you are in your journey and the needs of you and your family. The good news is that you don’t have to figure it out alone. During your consultation, we’ll talk about what you’re looking for, and together we’ll decide which service is the best fit. You can even combine services to create support that’s tailored to your needs.

During your consultation, we’ll get to know one another either in person or through a video call, whichever you’re most comfortable with. We’ll talk about you, your family, and the kind of support you’re looking for. I’ll explain how I can help, answer any questions you have, and together we’ll decide whether we’re a good fit.

Of course! Your initial consultation is completely free. I believe that simply getting to know someone shouldn’t come with a price tag. You should have the opportunity to meet me, ask questions, and learn about my services without feeling any pressure to commit afterward.

Scheduling a consultation is easy! Simply visit my Contact page and fill out the contact form. I’ll respond by email or phone within 48 hours, and together we’ll find a time that works for both of us.

Yes! If you’d prefer not to meet in person, we can schedule your consultation through Zoom or Google Meet. My goal is to make the process as comfortable and convenient as possible.

I serve all of Allegheny County and parts of Beaver and Washington Counties. If you’re not sure if you’re within my service area, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m always happy to discuss your location and see whether I’m able to support your family.

You can reach out at any point during your pregnancy. In general, the earlier you book, the better, as my availability may become limited. That said, if I have room in my schedule, I’m always happy to provide support on shorter notice.

Absolutely! I understand that needs can change throughout pregnancy and the postpartum period. If you decide you’d like to add or change a service, I’ll do my best to accommodate your request. As long as I have availability, I’m happy to adjust your support to meet your family’s changing needs.

Pregnancy Support is designed for those who want personalized guidance throughout pregnancy without continuous labor support. Together, we’ll prepare for birth by exploring your options, discussing birth preferences, practicing comfort techniques, and planning for the postpartum period. This service offers the same thoughtful prenatal preparation I provide to my birth clients, but it does not include on call labor support or attendance at your birth.

Pregnancy Support focuses entirely on preparing you for birth and the postpartum period. Birth Doula Support includes all of the prenatal preparation, along with continuous labor support, attendance at your birth, and a postpartum follow-up visit.

You can begin Pregnancy Support at any point during your pregnancy. Many families choose to start during the second trimester. If you’re reaching out later in pregnancy, don’t worry. If I have availability, I’m always happy to provide support.

Yes! If you decide you’d like continuous labor support after beginning Pregnancy Support, I’ll do my best to accommodate your request. As long as I have availability around your due date, we can discuss transitioning to Birth Doula Support.

Not at all. Every pregnancy is different, regardless of how many children you’ve had. Some returning parents want a refresher, while others are preparing for a very different birth experience than they’ve had before. Pregnancy Support is tailored to your individual needs, no matter where you are in your journey.

Our visits are shaped by what feels most helpful to you. We might discuss birth preferences, comfort measures, common interventions, informed consent, labor positions, postpartum planning, newborn feeding, or anything else that’s on your mind. Every visit is personalized, so we’ll focus on the topics that best prepare you for birth and the transition into parenthood.

Absolutely! I encourage partners and support people to participate whenever possible. Pregnancy is a journey for the whole family, and these visits provide an opportunity for everyone to ask questions, learn comfort techniques, and feel more prepared for birth together.

Not at all. Many families aren’t sure where to begin, and that’s perfectly okay. I’ll help guide our conversations and make sure we cover the topics that are most relevant to your pregnancy while leaving plenty of room for your questions along the way.

That’s more common than you might think! Part of my role is helping you understand what to expect and introducing topics you may not have considered yet. As we get to know one another, questions naturally come up, and we’ll work through them together at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Absolutely. Preparing for birth is only part of the journey. Together, we’ll also spend time planning for your recovery after pregnancy, including your support system, practical preparations at home, and a postpartum preparation visit where we’ll make nourishing freezer meals together. My goal is to help you feel ready not only for birth, but for the weeks that follow.

A birth doula is a trained professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support throughout pregnancy, labor, and the immediate postpartum period. My role is not to provide medical care or replace your healthcare provider. Instead, I’m here to help you understand your options, answer your questions, and support you throughout your birth experience.

You can hire a birth doula at any point during your pregnancy, but the earlier we begin working together, the more time we have to build a relationship and prepare for your birth. That said, if I have availability, I’m always happy to support families who reach out later in pregnancy.

Absolutely. Doulas support all types of births, including those with epidurals. My role doesn’t end when pain medication begins. I’ll continue providing comfort measures, emotional support, position suggestions, and guidance throughout your labor and birth.

Yes. Whether your cesarean is planned or becomes necessary during labor, a doula can still provide valuable support. I’ll help you prepare beforehand, remain with you whenever hospital policies allow, and continue supporting you and your partner throughout the experience.

Birth is unpredictable, and plans sometimes change. Whether labor progresses differently than expected or new decisions arise, my role remains the same. I’ll continue supporting you, help you understand your options, and meet you where you are without judgment.

Of course. A doula doesn’t replace your partner or support person. I work alongside them, helping them understand what’s happening and offering guidance when needed so they can focus on supporting you with confidence.

Every labor is different, so there isn’t a set rule for when I’ll join you. We’ll stay in contact as labor begins and decide together when it feels like the right time for me to come. My goal is to arrive when my support will be the most beneficial.

I’ll remain with you through your birth and for approximately one to two hours afterward, depending on your needs. Before I leave, I’ll make sure you’re settled, answer any immediate questions, and support your first feeding if you’d like assistance.

Yes. I provide support for hospital births, birth center births, and home births within my service area. Every birth setting is different, but my role remains the same: to provide steady, compassionate support throughout your experience.

Yes, when appropriate. While I don’t provide medical care, I can provide emotional support, evidence based education, comfort measures, and practical guidance while you receive care from your healthcare team.

I believe every person deserves informed consent and the opportunity to make decisions that reflect their values and goals. My role is to help you understand your options, encourage open communication with your healthcare team, and support the decisions you make. I don’t speak for you, but I can help you find your voice when you need it.

Postpartum support can begin whenever your family needs it. Some families schedule visits beginning the day they come home from the hospital, while others reach out several weeks before. Whether you’re preparing in advance or looking for support after your baby arrives, we’ll create a plan that fits your family’s needs.

No two visits are exactly alike because every family’s needs are different. One visit may focus on newborn care education, while another might include preparing a meal, folding laundry, washing bottles or pump parts, or caring for your baby while you shower or rest. Together, we’ll decide what feels most supportive each time I visit.

Of course. I support all feeding choices without judgment. Whether you’re breastfeeding, chestfeeding, pumping, formula feeding, combination feeding, or still deciding what works best for your family, my role is to provide evidence-based information, practical support and encouragement while helping you meet your own feeding goals.

I can. Caring for your baby while you shower, nap, eat a hot meal, or simply take a few quiet moments for yourself is one way I can support your recovery. Rest is an important part of the postpartum period, and I’m here to help make that possible whenever I can.

Every family is different, so there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer. During your consultation, we’ll talk about your goals, your support system, and the kind of help you’re looking for. Together, we’ll create a plan that works best for your family.

At this time, I offer daytime postpartum support only.

Absolutely! Bringing home a new baby is an adjustment for the whole family. I’m happy to include older siblings in age-appropriate ways while helping everyone settle into their new routines together.

Yes. Recovery after a cesarean birth comes with its own unique challenges, and I’m here to support you during that healing process. Whether you need help caring for your baby, preparing meals, managing household tasks, or simply creating space to rest, our visits will be tailored to your individual recovery and your family’s needs.

That’s completely okay. Many families aren’t sure what they’ll need until they’re living it. One day you may want practical help around the house, while another day you may simply need someone to hold the baby while you rest. Postpartum support is flexible, and together we’ll decide what feels most helpful each time I visit.

Support is available whenever you need it. Some people reach out immediately after learning of a loss, while others seek support weeks or months later. There is no timeline you have to follow. Whenever you’re ready, I’m here to meet you where you are.

Yes. I provide compassionate, judgment free support regardless of how your pregnancy ended. Whether your decision was personal, medical, or made under difficult circumstances, your experience matters, and you deserve care that honors your choices and your grief.

Absolutely. Pregnancy loss affects more than the person who was pregnant. Partners, intended parents, grandparents, and other loved ones often experience grief in their own ways. I’m happy to provide support for those navigating the loss alongside you.

There is no such thing as a “typical” visit because every person’s experience is different. One visit may simply be a quiet conversation over a cup of tea, while another may include preparing a meal, helping around the house, providing information about postpartum recovery, or connecting you with local resources. Together, we’ll decide what feels most supportive.

Yes. Whether your baby died during pregnancy, at birth, or shortly afterward, you deserve compassionate care and support. I’ll meet you where you are, providing practical assistance, emotional support, and information about postpartum recovery while honoring your baby’s life and your family’s experience.

Absolutely. Miscarriage is often minimized by others, but your grief and your recovery deserve care and attention. Whether you experienced an early or later pregnancy loss, I’m here to provide compassionate support without judgment.

Every person’s recovery is different, but pregnancy loss still involves postpartum healing. Your body has experienced pregnancy, and it deserves time, rest, and care as it recovers. Recovery includes both physical healing and emotional support, regardless of how your pregnancy ended.

Yes. If you’d benefit from additional support, I’m happy to connect you with local counselors, support groups, lactation support following loss, funeral or memorial resources, and other community services that may be helpful for your situation.

No. There is no right or wrong way to grieve. My role isn’t to tell you how you should feel or what your healing should look like. I’m here to support you, listen without judgment, and walk alongside you in whatever way feels most helpful.

A Nourishment Visit is a personalized meal preparation service designed to support you during pregnancy, postpartum, or after pregnancy loss. Together, we’ll prepare nourishing, freezer friendly meals using groceries you provide, helping make the weeks ahead a little easier. It’s also an opportunity to talk, ask questions, and receive practical support in a relaxed setting.

Yes. You’ll purchase the groceries, and I’ll help you create a personalized shopping list ahead of your visit based on your family’s preferences, dietary needs, and the meals you’d like to prepare.

Not at all. Some families enjoy cooking together, while others choose to rest, spend time with their baby, or focus on other tasks while I prepare the meals. We’ll decide together what feels most comfortable for you.

The number of meals depends on the recipes we choose and the amount of preparation involved. Before your visit, we’ll create a plan that makes the best use of our time while fitting your family’s needs and freezer space.

Absolutely! Whether you’re vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, dairy free, or have food allergies or other dietary preferences, we’ll choose recipes that work well for your family.

Of course. Many families choose to schedule multiple visits to continue stocking their freezer or receive ongoing support during the postpartum period. During your consultation, we can talk about a plan that best meets your family’s needs.

Most Nourishment Visits last approximately three hours, giving us enough time to prepare several meals while still leaving room for conversation, questions, and postpartum planning. If you’re looking for something different, let’s talk. I’m happy to discuss options that fit your family’s needs.

Absolutely! In fact, many families choose to schedule a Nourishment Visit during the final weeks of pregnancy so they have nourishing, ready-to-eat meals waiting for them after birth. It’s one less thing to think about during the early postpartum period.

Yes. Recovery after pregnancy deserves nourishment and support, regardless of how that pregnancy ended. Nourishment Visits are available for anyone recovering after pregnancy, and each visit is tailored to your individual needs and preferences.

Yes. Part of every Nourishment Visit includes cleaning the kitchen and washing the dishes we’ve used, so you can enjoy your meals without being left with the cleanup.

A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support throughout pregnancy, birth, the postpartum period, or pregnancy loss. Unlike doctors and midwives, doulas do not provide medical care. Instead, we help families understand their options, navigate their experiences, and feel supported every step of the way.

No. Doulas are not medical providers and do not replace the care of your doctor, midwife, or nurse. Instead, we work alongside your healthcare team by providing continuous support, comfort measures, education, and encouragement throughout your journey.

No. Doulas do not perform medical procedures, monitor your baby, diagnose medical conditions, or make medical decisions. Those responsibilities belong to your healthcare provider. My role is to provide support, education, and comfort while you receive medical care from your chosen provider.

No. While I can provide evidence based information and help you understand your options, I cannot give medical advice or recommend one medical treatment over another. If you have questions about your health or your baby’s health, I’ll encourage you to discuss them with your healthcare provider.

Yes, though advocacy can mean different things to different people. My role is to help you understand your options, encourage informed consent, and support open communication with your healthcare team. Rather than speaking for you, I help you find your own voice so you can make informed decisions that reflect your values and goals.

My goal is to empower you to communicate your own wishes whenever possible. If you’re unable to communicate in the moment, I can help remind you of your birth preferences, encourage questions, or ask for clarification from your healthcare team. I won’t make decisions or speak over you, but I’ll always support your right to understand what’s happening and participate in your care.

No. Every decision about your care belongs to you. My role is to provide information, answer questions, and support you as you make the choices that feel right for you and your family.

There is rarely one “right” answer in pregnancy, birth, or postpartum care. Every family has different priorities, values, and circumstances. Rather than telling you what you should do, I’ll help you understand your options so you can make informed decisions that feel right for you.

Informed consent means you have the right to receive clear, accurate information about your care before making a decision. This includes understanding the benefits, risks, alternatives, and what may happen if you choose to wait or decline. My role is to encourage those conversations and help you feel confident asking questions.

Unexpected recommendations can feel overwhelming, especially during labor. I’ll help you slow the moment down, encourage open communication with your healthcare team, and support you as you gather the information you need to make an informed decision. Sometimes plans change, and that’s okay. My role is to support you through those changes without judgment.

Absolutely. Birth is unpredictable, and it’s completely normal for your preferences to change as labor unfolds. Whether you decide to request an epidural, decline an intervention you originally wanted, or make a different choice than you expected, I’ll continue supporting you every step of the way.

Yes. My role isn’t to guide you toward my preferences. It’s to support you in making informed decisions that align with your own values, goals, and circumstances. Whether your birth unfolds exactly as planned or takes an unexpected turn, you can expect compassionate, respectful support without judgment.

No. Every family’s journey is different, and there is no single “right” way to experience pregnancy, birth, or postpartum. Whether you’re planning an unmedicated birth, choosing an epidural, scheduling a cesarean, breastfeeding, formula feeding, placing a baby for adoption, recovering after pregnancy loss, or making decisions that differ from your original plans, my role is to provide compassionate, judgment free support. My priority is helping you feel informed, respected, and cared for throughout your journey.

No. A birth plan isn’t a contract or a measure of success. It’s simply a way to communicate your preferences and help your healthcare team understand what matters most to you. If your plans change along the way, that doesn’t mean you’ve failed. My role is to help you adapt, stay informed, and continue making decisions that feel right for you.

Current pricing for each service can be found on the individual service pages. If you’re not sure which service is the best fit or have questions about creating a customized support plan, I’d be happy to discuss your options during your free consultation.

Yes. I believe quality doula support should be as accessible as possible. Payment plans are available for most services, and together we’ll find a schedule that works for your family’s needs.

I currently accept cash, personal checks, Zelle, Venmo, and PayPal. If you have questions about payment methods, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Yes. A non-refundable retainer is required to reserve your place on my calendar. The remaining balance is due according to the payment schedule outlined in your service agreement.

Payment schedules vary depending on the service you’ve selected. We’ll review all payment details during your consultation, and everything will be clearly outlined in your service agreement before any commitment is made.

Life is unpredictable, and I understand that circumstances sometimes change. Because reserving your place on my calendar means I may turn away other families, all deposits and payments are non-refundable. If you need to cancel a service after making additional payments, those funds may be applied toward another service, provided the new service can be scheduled within my availability. I’m unable to issue refunds for canceled services. If you have questions about your specific situation, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Babies have their own timelines! That’s why Birth Doula clients receive an on-call period around their estimated due date. If your baby arrives earlier or later than expected, I’ll do everything I can to provide the support we’ve planned together.

I have completed my Full Spectrum Doula training through Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings (BADT) and am currently working toward certification. I remain committed to continuing my education so I can provide evidence-based, inclusive support to every family I serve.

Yes. I maintain current Pennsylvania Child Abuse, Pennsylvania State Police, and FBI criminal background clearances. As a professional nanny for more than a decade, I’ve consistently maintained these clearances and continue to renew them as required.

I believe healthcare decisions are personal. If you have questions about my vaccination status or specific health precautions, I’m happy to discuss them with you during your consultation so you can make the decision that’s right for your family.

Insurance coverage for doula services varies depending on your health insurance plan. At this time, I cannot guarantee that my services will be reimbursed by your insurance provider. If your plan offers doula benefits, I’m happy to provide receipts or documentation that may assist with your reimbursement request. I encourage you to contact your insurance company directly to learn what benefits may be available under your specific plan.

Some Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) reimburse doula services, depending on your plan. I recommend contacting your benefits provider to determine your eligibility. I’m happy to provide receipts or documentation if needed.

Yes! Doula support and Nourishment Visits make thoughtful gifts for growing families. If you’re interested in purchasing a gift certificate, please reach out and I’ll be happy to help.

You’re welcome to reach out by text or email throughout our time together. I’ll respond as soon as I’m able during normal business hours. If I’m attending a birth or away from my phone, I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Yes. Your privacy is important to me. Everything you share with me will be treated with respect and kept confidential, except in situations where I’m legally required to report concerns for someone’s safety or well-being.

Absolutely. Every family is different, and sometimes a standard package isn’t the best fit. If you’re looking for something a little different, let’s talk. Whenever possible, I’m happy to create a plan that reflects your family’s unique needs.

Still Have Questions?

If you didn’t find the answer you were looking for, I’d be happy to help. Every family, every pregnancy, and every birth is unique, and sometimes the best way to answer a question is through a conversation. Whether you’re ready to schedule a consultation or simply want to learn more about my services, I’m here to help.
